Brassaii’s Relaunch & Media Shmooze
Last week, Brassaii unveiled their big redesign & relaunch as they played host to a veritable who’s who of everyone who thinks they’re who’s who. The owner, Borys Chabursky, was kind enough to take me on a tour of the new space – and what a difference! There’s a whole new area opened on the side of the dining room (kind of like if you took Lobby and dumped it next door to the restaurant). Also, while poking around they discovered a previously hidden near-ancient elevator. Though not operational, it’s lit up and now acts as a wicked design element and conversation piece. Overall, I’m looking forward to visiting Brassaii again in the near future!
Notables in attendance on this eve: Gossip great Shinan Govani, VJ-turned-news-guy Matt Babel, eTalk’s Traci Melchor and Danielle McGimsie, CP24’s Melissa Grelo, Project Runway Canada designers Brandon R. Dwyer and Jessica Biffi, Jian “Billy Bob” Ghomeshi, Global News reporters Jackson Proskow and Catherine McDonald, and finally – Much Music’s Devon Soltendieck.

Much Music & Things I’ve Learned
It’s been a couple of weeks since I started at Much Music. I’ve been working on MuchOnDemand, and it appears as if that will continue past the Olympics. Loving the people and working on Queen St. especially. Speaking of the Olympics, holy crap – the Olympics. I have almost zero interest in winter sports, but I’ve come to realize there’s a certain Nascar’esque charm to these games. As much as we’d like to deny our lust for mayhem, we all love a good crash.
Also, not realizing I was going to be working on the Olympics when I took this position, I decided this past week was a good time to move. In retrospect, this was not a good decision. My new condo looks as if George Bush and Dick Cheney invaded to search for weapons of mass destruction.
Anyways – here’s a list of Things I’ve Learned in the past couple of weeks:
- Working at Queen & John is tighter than Nicole Kidman’s forehead. People constantly wave, take pictures and bang on the windows. Good times.
- I was jamming to this wicked R&B jam at a bar the other night. It was by this great new fem singer featuring the nonsensical audio stylings of Ludacris. This was, of course, until I realized that mysterious woman was Justin Bieber. My interest crashed faster than a marriage to Charlie Sheen.
- New music is obscene. Rihanna’s Rude Boy is just plain vile. Now, Biggy’s F***(ing) You Tonight is probably even more direct than Rude Boy, but far less shocking for the sake of shock value. It’s a poetic lasciviousness that I appreciate. Where as, Rihanna just comes off as dirty.
- Irish Springs is not Irish Creme. Apparently ordering coffee also requires coffee so you don’t order soap by accident.
- Hummers might be a thing of the past! Well, at least the vehicular monstrosities that occupy urban streets and get kids to soccer practice. This is particularly good news for fashion designer Breeyn McCarney who will stop mid-street and flip them off.
- LeBron James and Jay-Z like to party in Toronto.
- Courtney Love explains how to get drugs while away from home, “I would call up a hooker agency and I would ask for the ugliest hooker, because the ugliest hooker would know (where to get drugs). They would think I was a lesbian and come with all sorts of things (sex toys) and I’d be like, ‘No, no put it down, I just want to know where the drugs are.’ So that was my trick.”
LOL @ THIS:
Found on /Film (via Paul Scheer’s blog, via ziesgotyouhigh) – hilarious Venn Diagram featuring the many subtleties that make up Denzel Washington. No matter what the role – Denzel always just seems like Denzel to me – save for a new hat, haircut, etc. I find the same is true of Meryl Streep – watching her in any movie suspends my disbelief instantly.

Annie Lennox and Melissa Auf der Maur share notes on their hatred for Valentine’s Day in an interview with E! News Weekend.
TCHAD’s Bai Ling/Winter Issue
On Friday night a group of scenesters, media types and well-dressed babe types attended TCHAD Magazine’s winter issue release party. Owner/operators George Sully and C. Gardiner Cranston kept the drinks pouring as Lobby played host to the dapper crowd. Notable persons in attendance included: Olympic gold medalist Donovan Bailey, actress Amanda Brugel, fashion designer and Project Runway Canada alumn Brandon R. Dwyer, and TV host Emmanuel Belliveau.
Big ’thank you’ to Nancy Kim and Five Entertainment for the photos!
TCHAD & ScarJo
Heading off to TCHAD magazine’s winter issue release party tonight. This edition’s cover features a red-clad Bai Ling wearing a Philip Treacy‘esque headpiece. And in honour of the new ish, I’m posting a look back at their Spring covergirl – Scarlett Johansson. In an E! broadcast exclusive, ScarJo tells TCHAD about her love-hate relationship with Hollywood.
